Writing is a journey, much like life.  I envy young writers who have so much to say and manage to say it so skillfully.  It took me a bit longer.  There were roads to choose, some less traveled and some simply the easiest route to a known destination.  There were joys and sorrows and challenges and rewards.  All of that percolated around a bit and emerged here and there, as journals, newspaper features, stories, poems and finally as a book.

I write what can officially be termed Youth Fiction.  The word "youth," though, isn't so easily defined.  Anyone who reads at a fourth grade level or above will grasp the content of my books.  Anyone with an imagination and who dares to believe in what they cannot see will appreciate the mixture of fact and fantasy.  Take one traveling family, add in destinations throughout the United States, mix well with equal parts of history and ghostly encounters and you have the basic recipe of my books.

History is fascinating stuff.  And just think, every day is tomorrow's history.  So much of who we are is based on who came before us and how we react to or ignore their experiences.  What would we do if we could talk to the people who lived the events that have become our American history?  What would we ask them?  What would we learn?

And who's to say it can't happen?

Travel with Kat and Brian Rogers and their parents as they explore the United States.  Stand with Kat and Brian on the battlefield of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, when they help the ghost of a Confederate soldier with his unfinished business.  Help them sort through clues in Savannah, Georgia, as they track down a missing necklace that two pirate ghosts very much want returned.  Walk with them on the Natchez Trace as they meet the ghosts of those who lived and died along that historic trail.

The next stop for this traveling family is Texas, where they will visit the site of a famous last stand:  the Alamo.
